Aakash tablets delivery pushed to January 2012

Aakash confirms delays for its budget-Android tablet device
The delivery of the low-cost Android-powered Aakash tablet has been delayed.
A Datawind spokesperson told The Mobile Indian, "people who have booked the Aakash tablet online will get its delivery in January.
The spokesperson, however, didn't cite any reason for the delay. Earlier the company had said that Rs 2,500 Aakash tablet will be delivered within seven days of online booking and start retailing in November.
The company has now announced that the tablet will reach retail outlets only in February.
The Canadian company also failed to keep up its promise with the students. Earlier when Aakash tablet was launched it was to be given only to students for Rs 1000. However on December 15, when online booking opened, it was for everyone.
Interestingly while the Aakash tablet is suffering a delay, the website continues to accept the orders for UbiSlate7, which is an upgraded version of the Aakash tablet.
UbiSlate is scheduled to be launched in January 2012. It has been noticed that both the tablets differ a lot from each other.
Here a brief look on both of them.
Aakash tablet runs on Android, 2.2 (Froyo) whereas UbiSlate 7 is powered by Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). There is a huge battery difference with Aakash holding 2100mAh while UbiSlate 7 with a 3200mAh battery life.
We hope Datawind pulls its socks up and honors its commitment, otherwise it stands to lose its edge in the competitive tablet market.
