8 Reasons Why Aakash Is Not A Bad Investment!

Aakash is now available for all. But with a flood of low cost tablet devices already available (not as cheap as Aakash, though) and many more on the way, it is difficult to decide whether Aakash is a device worth spending. Well, we give you eight reasons for that.
Before that, here is a disclaimer. Aakash is certainly not for people who aspire to have an iPad. It is a basic computing device designed for students or people, who have similar tasks to perform. To be precise, it's an introductory device. Now let's check out the reasons that may compel you to buy Aakash.
Affordable Price
Of course, that's why it made headlines internationally! It's affordability makes it a device for the commoners. Aakash is available at a decent price of Rs 2,500, while the UbiSlate, the upgraded commercial version of the device is available for Rs 2,999. For this kind of price, the 17.8-cm device (7-inch) UbiSlate has decent specifications.
Phone
The tablet comes with support for call functionality. So users can use it as a phone with a SIM card. It is not SIM locked to any carrier and gives the users enough flexibility to choose their service provider. The device comes with a standard 3.5mm jack, which adds to its capability of making and receiving calls.
Android 2.3
There are many low-cost tablet devices that run Android Froyo. UbiSlate runs an advanced version, Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform. With this, the users also get support for the Android Market.
Connectivity
The connectivity aspect of UbiSlate 7 has been managed well. It comes with support for GPRS, Wi-Fi and 3G dongle.
External memory
When it comes to memory of the device, UbiSlate 7 is at par with many tablets in the market, said a Tech 2 report. The tablet comes with 2GB internal memory. Users can expand it to 32GB with the external microSD card. The overall storage capacity of UbiSlate 7, is at the same level as with its expensive counterparts. Since UbiSlate 7 comes with support for two standard USB 2.0 ports, it also allows connecting external storage devices like a flash drive, webcams and more.
Warranty
DataWind offers a 30 days replacement warranty, along with a one year warranty on the device. So, you are kind of safe with your investment in Aakash.
Portability
If you ignore the plastic body of the device, DataWind has clearly added the portability factor in UbiSlate 7. The 17.8-cm(7-inch) device weighs 350 grams, which can easily slip in your bag.
Display size
UbiSlate 7 comes with a standard screen size of 17.8-cm (7-inch) and a fairly acceptable resolution of 800x480. The screen performance, however, has not been considered here.

An improved version of the tablet is likely to hit the shelves next year, which will come with better processing speed, and a few improvements like an external keyboard just for Rs 3,500.
