The world's cheapest Android Tablet - Aakash, launched recently in India, is on its way to U.S. buyers as well. If that happens, then its retail price in America will be close to $60. In India it has been launched at a subsidized price of $35 for the students; however, in the Indian retail market as well, it is expected to be launched with the name UbiSlate, and with a pricetag of $50 or so.

Aakash has already been able to create much buzz in the Indian technology arena, with the lowest ever price tag for any computer worldwide. Before, Aakash was launched, the lowest priced tablet available commercially was priced close to $100. Obviously, something as low as $35 is bound to create much curiosity and interest.
The tablet, though priced dirt cheap, has got everything. With 256 MB RAM and touch screen, it is a complete computer within itself. It also has a provision for a SIM card, and hence can be used as a mobile phone to make and receive calls.
Aakash may not fascinate people who have already been using high end mobiles, iPhones or laptops. It is primarily for people who have not used a computer at all in their life, or who normally could not afford one. As the number of people with poor financial backgrounds are in the millions in India, the tablet may get lots of buyers there alone. Apart from them, there are many who, although using a mobile/laptop or computer already, still may go for Aakash as a standby gagdet if not as their primary one.
